Discover Harman’s second-generation color negative film—Phoenix II 200—a bold evolution of their experimental flagship, now refined for greater consistency and creative freedom.
This updated version features a completely new formulation, with redesigned layers, dyes, and couplers that deliver smoother grain, improved sharpness, and more refined contrast. The result is a film that feels more polished while still retaining its unique character.
Rated at ISO 200 (DX-coded), Phoenix II offers extended exposure latitude and performs best between EI 100 and 200. It’s more forgiving than the original Phoenix, making it easier to shoot in varied lighting without worrying about blown highlights or muddy shadows.
Harman has also improved color rendering and dynamic range, producing softer pastel tones with better highlight and shadow detail. Skin tones are noticeably more accurate, and the film handles both bright and subdued scenes with a cinematic softness.
While Phoenix II still lacks the traditional orange mask found in most color negative films, its scanning compatibility has been significantly improved, offering better color balance and tonal control for those digitizing their negatives at home or in labs.
When shooting, you’ll find Phoenix II 200 excels in bright to overcast conditions, delivering visible grain and a nostalgic, retro aesthetic. It shines particularly when overexposed by one to two stops, producing warmer, dreamier tones. In medium format, the film displays impressive clarity and grain control, while the 35mm format delivers a grittier, more textured look that film lovers often embrace.
Phoenix II is an ideal choice for analog shooters who want a blend of expressive character and reliable performance. Medium format users will especially appreciate the balance of sharpness and color accuracy, while 35mm shooters can enjoy the textured, grain-rich look that makes film so distinctive. While it may not be the go-to option for those seeking ultra-clean, modern color profiles, it’s a rewarding film for anyone looking to explore a fresh take on classic color film.
