APS film developing by mail

APS film is getting harder to develop locally. Most drugstores and many labs no longer have the equipment for it, which is why mail-in developing has become the easiest option for APS shooters. We develop APS (Advanced Photo System) film, sold as Kodak Advantix, Fujifilm Nexia and other brands, and scan every frame so you get digital files of photos that may have been waiting years to be seen.

APS film hasn't been manufactured in over a decade, so nearly every roll we receive is expired: a cartridge found in a drawer, or still loaded in an old camera. We develop expired APS the same way we develop fresh film, and we'll get as much out of it as the film allows.

Choose develop only if you just want your negatives processed, or add scans for downloadable digital files.

APS film is developed in C-41 color chemistry, typically within 1 to 3 business days after it arrives at our lab.

APS black and white film, such as Kodak Advantix B&W+, is a chromogenic film designed for C-41 processing, so it's developed alongside color APS.

is your APS roll shot or developed?

Check the flat end of the cartridge. Four numbered symbols circle the spool, and the one that shows white tells you where the roll stands:

  • Circle (1): unexposed. Fresh film, no photos taken yet.
  • Half circle (2): partly shot. Some photos were taken before the roll came out of the camera. Send it in.
  • Cross (3): shot, not developed. The whole roll is exposed and ready to develop. Send it in.
  • Square (4): already developed. Your negatives are stored inside the cartridge.

FAQ

How much does APS film developing cost?

APS developing with standard scans is $13 per roll, and high resolution scans are $19. Develop only is also available. Round-trip shipping is $8.95, and orders over $100 ship free.

Can you still develop APS film?

Yes. We develop APS (Advantix) film in C-41 and scan it in our lab in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Mail it to us from anywhere in the U.S.

How do I know if my APS film has been used?

Check the symbols on the end of the cartridge. A full circle means the roll is unexposed. A half circle means it's partly exposed. An X means it's fully exposed but not developed. A rectangle means it has already been developed.

Do you develop expired APS film?

Yes. Since APS film is no longer made, almost every roll is expired. Old film can show color shifts, more grain or faded contrast depending on its age and how it was stored, but many rolls still produce usable photos.

Do I get my negatives back?

Yes. With APS, the cartridge doubles as the negative holder. We don't cut APS film into strips. After developing, your film is wound back into its original cartridge for safe storage and returned to you. A developed cartridge shows a rectangle symbol on the end.

Do I need to choose cut or uncut negatives for APS?

No. APS film is never cut, so the cut/uncut option doesn't apply. Your negatives always come back stored in the cartridge.

Collap What if my APS film turns out blank?  sible row

APS film that is completely blank after processing (no discernible exposures) incurs a baseline develop-only charge of $10, since each roll takes time, chemistry and labor. Scans or prints ordered for that roll are refunded. Shipping isn't refunded, and your negatives are still returned.

Do you develop 110 film?

No, we don't process or scan 110, 126 or 828 film. We develop APS, 35mm, half frame, 120, 220 and disposable cameras.
