35mm film developing by mail

35mm film developing is the most common film developing request we receive, and mail in film developing has become the easiest way to get it done without hunting for a local lab. We process 35mm film in both Color C41 and Black and White, covering standard 35mm cartridges from any SLR, rangefinder, or point and shoot. Whether you are shooting a Canon AE-1, a Pentax K1000, or a modern point and shoot, our film developing process uses the same chemistry control across every roll we run.

Choose develop only if you just want your negatives processed, add scanning for downloadable digital files, or add physical prints if you want hard copies in hand.

  • Processing Time

Our 35mm film developing turnaround consistently outpaces industry standards, with Color C41 film typically processed in 1 to 3 business days after arrival at our lab. This fast film developing turnaround means 35mm shooters get their scans and prints back quickly, without the multi week waits common at many other film labs.

Black and White 35mm film is hand processed rather than run through automated lines, which is why turnaround runs 1 to 5 business days. This hand processing approach gives our lab technicians direct control over development time, agitation, and chemistry temperature for each roll.

FAQ

Does 35mm cost more or less to develop than 120?

35mm film developing starts at $10, which is $2 less than 120 due to the smaller negative size and lighter handling requirements. Final cost also depends on whether you select develop only, scanning, or prints, along with resolution and any add ons chosen at checkout.

Can I develop 35mm film without getting it scanned?

Yes. Develop only is available for customers who want their negatives processed without digital scans or prints.

How long does black and white 35mm film take to process?

Black and white 35mm typically takes 1 to 5 business days due to hand processing. Color C41 typically processes in 1 to 2 business days. Shipping time is separate from these windows.

What if my 35mm film turns out blank?

35mm film that is completely blank after processing, meaning no discernible exposures, will incur baseline develop only charges of $7 for Color C41 and $13 for Black and White, since each roll requires time, chemistry, and labor. Additional service requests for the related roll will be refunded.

Shipping will not be refunded on blank roll orders, your negatives will still be returned.

Can you develop damaged, wet, or souped film?

Film showing moisture, water exposure, or prior chemical alteration may be refused to prevent contamination of lab chemistry and equipment. If received, you will be notified and given return options.

Can you push/pull my 35mm film?

Yes. Push and pull processing available for black and white film only. Available in 1, 2, or 3 stop increments. Select push/pull option when ordering and specify stops in order notes. Additional fees apply.

Not available for color C41 film.

Do you develop expired 35mm film?

Yes. We process both fresh and expired 35mm rolls in Color C41 and Black and White. Expired film may show shifted color, increased grain, or reduced contrast depending on age and storage conditions, but it processes through the same chemistry as fresh rolls.
